Born and raised in Scarborough, Krissan is a long-time community advocate who co-founded and runs the Scarborough Environmental Association alongside his wife, Fizza and is the Co-Chair of the board for TTC Riders, Toronto's largest transit advocacy organization. Through his initiatives he has fought to make life more affordable for working people in Scarborough and to build a city that works for those who make it run.

From free repair initiatives to cultural programs like the Scarborough RT Food Tour and the Scarborough Ethnic Grocer Map, his work has helped spotlight the community’s vibrancy and make it more resilient. Krissan’s advocacy has been featured by The Globe and Mail, CBC, CP24, and a Toronto Star article has referred to him as a member of Scarborough’s “Unofficial Tourism Board.” As Scarborough grows he hopes to guide the Borough to be place that works for everyone not just the wealthy.

Advocated for housing affordability policies such as the Vacant Homes Tax & Inclusionary zoning, as a volunteer lead with Progress Toronto, to ensure homes are not left empty and people can afford to live in the communities they work in during a housing crisis.

Co-founded the Scarborough Environmental Association (SEA) with my wife, Fizza, and fellow Scarborough activists to deliver sustainable community services and social programming.

Serviced on the TTC Riders Board to fight transit cuts to Scarborough and build a more equitable, accessible transit system.

Launched a mobile bike repair program bringing free repair services to underserved communities, repairing hundreds of bikes over the years.

Awarded Tamil 30 Under 30 by Mayor Olivia Chow for advocacy and community work in Scarborough.

Launched annual Scarborough Eco Fair providing a platform for local environmental groups and offering free community programming.

Launched the Scarborough Local Grocery Map, featured by CBC, highlighting Scarborough’s diverse food scene and promoting intercultural exchange.

Spearheaded the development of multiple small business maps to promote shopping local, affordability and sustainable businesses, from second hand stores to repair stores and vegan restaurants collectively reaching nearly half a million views.

Received the Greener City For All Award from Toronto Environmental Alliance(TEA) for contributions to single-use food container research.

Launched weekly sewing program and taught sewing to over 100 participants across diverse backgrounds and age groups. Created social space for seniors and sewers to meet weekly.

Won Family Feud for Scarborough and donated prize money to local community programs.

Received the GNN Green Hearts Award for contributions to environmental organizing.

Created a community lending library enabling neighbourhood groups to access cleanup supplies, bird-watching equipment, and repair tools.

Launched monthly Clothing Swap providing free clothing to hundreds of residents and diverting thousands of pounds of textiles from landfills.

Instituted various community swap initiatives

Ran pop-up children’s book programs, holiday toy giveaways for families facing financial hardship, and a Tool Swap providing free access to tools.

Served as Board Co-Chair of TTC Riders and represented Scarborough transit concerns at the TTC Riders Transit Summit.
