Making Life More Affordable

The rising cost of living is affecting families across Scarborough. My work has always focused on practical solutions that put money back in people's pockets while strengthening our community.

Through the Scarborough Environmental Association, I've helped launch monthly Repair Cafés that repair clothing, electronics, appliances and bicycles for free, keeping hundreds of dollars in the pockets of residents, while reducing waste. We've expanded this work with clothing swaps, toy swaps, book exchanges, art supply swaps and tool sharing initiatives that make everyday essentials more accessible.

I've also created resources like Scarborough's Garage Sale Map and organized mobile bike repair clinics to help residents save money, stay active and reduce transportation costs. As your City Councillor, I'll continue expanding these neighbourhood-based affordability programs so every resident has access to practical support close to home.

Supporting Local Businesses

Scarborough's small businesses are what give our neighbourhoods their character. They're where cultures meet, where families build livelihoods and where our local economy grows. As Scarborough develops, we must ensure independent businesses aren't pushed aside by rising costs and corporate chains.

I've spent years promoting local businesses through initiatives like the Scarborough RT Food Tour and digital resources highlighting local repair shops, thrift stores, vegan restaurants and other hidden gems. These projects have introduced thousands of people to businesses they may never have otherwise discovered while encouraging residents to shop locally.

At City Hall, I'll advocate for policies that support main streets, protect affordable commercial spaces and ensure new developments create opportunities for local entrepreneurs, not just national retailers.

Combatting Isolation

Resilient communities are built when neighbours know one another and have opportunities to learn, volunteer and connect.

I've helped create free and low-cost programming that brings people together every week, including sewing classes, nature exploration walks, gardening programs, repair workshops and community mentorship opportunities. These programs reduce social isolation, build practical skills and connect people across generations and cultures.

I believe every neighbourhood deserves vibrant community spaces where residents can learn new skills, meet neighbours and build lasting friendships.

Reliable Transit For Scarborough

For too long, Scarborough residents have paid the price for poor transit planning through longer commutes, overcrowded buses and broken promises.

As Co-Chair of TTC Riders, I've fought against TTC service cuts, advocated for fare freezes and fare capping, pushed for greater transparency from Metrolinx and been a leader in calling for the Scarborough Busway after the RT closure. I also organized the Scarborough RT Food Tour to celebrate the communities connected by the RT while raising awareness about the consequences of its closure.

I'll continue fighting for frequent bus service, faster transit, safer streets and transportation investments that respect Scarborough residents' time.

Homes People Can Afford

Everyone deserves the opportunity to live in the community where they work, study and raise a family.

I support expanding co-operative, non-profit and non-market housing, while requiring new developments to include affordable homes through inclusionary zoning. I'll also advocate to the Province for the return of real rent control and stronger protections against renovictions to keep families in their homes and neighbourhoods.

As Scarborough grows, we must invest in the parks, transit, schools and community infrastructure that growing communities need so we have new homes, not just buildings.

Creating Good Local Jobs

Scarborough should be a place where people can build successful careers without leaving the community.

I'll fight to protect employment lands from redevelopment and support local businesses that create stable jobs within our neighbourhoods. Small businesses are one of the largest sources of employment in Scarborough, and they deserve a City Hall that helps them succeed.

I'm also advocating for a federal and provincial Youth Climate Corps that would provide paid training and employment for young people while improving parks, restoring natural spaces, retrofitting buildings and helping communities become more climate resilient. It's an investment that tackles youth unemployment while preparing the workforce for the economy of tomorrow.
